    Looking Your Age

Who the heck wants to look their age??? I for one do NOT! I want to look about 25 years old. That's my goal. Yep!

About 3 years ago I was at the movies with a guy (first date) and (being my usual nutty self) I asked the young kid behind the popcorn counter to guess my age. He looked at me and said "You're probably about 23". Oh, I wanted to kiss that kid! I told him I wish I could give him a tip but I knew it was against policy (heeheehee) for him to accept it.j

I don't like fine lines... I don't like gray hairs. At least, not on ME. Other people wear it perfectly well. But it's just not for ME. I find myself comparing myself to my mother at this age. She was probably no bigger than a size 6 and looked about 18 years old. LOL! I remember people saying "That's your MOM? She looks so young!" Now, as we walk through the mall together, I get to hear the "Is she your sister?" questions. WHAT AN INSULT!!!

I mean, I know Cameron Diaz enjoys her wrinkles and stuff. Well, she's a celebrity and has MONEY. She can HAVE her wrinkles and stuff! Hmph!

I don't want to look my age. I'm just wondering. Does anyone want to look their age???

    Re: Looking Your Age

I don't think anyone wants to look their age especially if they think it looks bad. But nowadays age is just a number. My mom just turned 65 the other day and she looks 45 years old. I'm glad that means I got that gene LOL. I'm close to turning 40, I don't think I look 40 no one mistakes me for 40 although sometimes I do feel 40. I just think most of us want to look good, I want to look appropriate for my age. I know I can't dress in some of the styles the kids wear, that just looks like you're trying to hard. But I'm going old lady either. I'm moving into a more professional phase of my life, not that I wasn't professional before but I'm feeling more professional so I'm trying to look it. I'm trying my hand at wearing make up, something I rarely ever did but I'm finding that I like it. Also that I look more sophisticated, now that's something I want to look more of...sophisticated.

As far as one's physical features are concerned, I think most people who are 30+ would like to look younger than what they are. Although, I can't 100% agree with you on wrinkles.

Not always, but sometimes, wrinkles and folds do add character and personality to a face. There are definitely good wrinkles and bad wrinkles. To me, laugh lines seem to improve a face. I had one girlfriend who was in her early 20s, but already had a lot of lines around her eyes (crows feet and so on). This somehow made her more attractive to me, not less.

Regarding fashion, I have mixed feelings about that as well. On the one hand, there are some fashions that really do look juvenile on an older person, and should be avoided. But a lot of people take things to the other extreme. Many guys complain that women get married, hit middle age, and just stop trying to look attractive. They chop off all their hair and buy a bunch of ugly "mom jeans."

It's like such a woman is announcing to the world that sex is for young women, but now the fun's over for her and she must resign herself to being a boring old matron.

Sometimes, when I see an older woman with longer hair and somewhat youthful fashion sense, I think, "Good for you! Screw the haters!"

Oh I agree. And I think that ugly jeans should be outlawed! I hate seeing anyone in ugly jeans. LOL! I've been known to make a pair of ugly jeans look good though... (giggles)

I think that men wear fine lines well. I just don't think that I wear them well. I've had a frown mark on my forehead for about 10 years. I know it's my ex-husband's fault (who else can I blame???) but I'm the one stuck with it. So I've got an ugly widow's peak and an ugly frown mark along with this dent-like thing in between my brows. LOL! I just hate it! And I keep asking myself "What's next???" Lately I've been having dark shadows below my eyes. That may have been due to a lack of Vitamin D (sick at home). I took my vitamins and went for a nice hour long walk yesterday and the shadows are gone. BUT I know they'll be back. I just know it!!! LOL

I just want to age gracefully and I keep torturing myself by comparing my body to my mother's body. She's all cute and small and adorable. She rocks the long hair (to her butt - smdh) while I've got the short cuts. She wears her clothes baggy (and they're small to begin with) while I'm showing the rollie pollie figure in my tight (big girl) clothes. I'm probably just being too hard on myself today. It's that time of the month. LMFAO! I probably should go for a walk...

    Re: Looking Your Age

I don't do anything special to slow the aging process (coz I dont really know what to do) but I try to stay healthy. People usually guess that I am 7-8 years younger than I really am. I guess I am lucky so far. I am afraid I will wake up one morning and it will have all caught up with me, like the Far Side cartoon of Dick Clark many years ago!

    Re: Looking Your Age

I will fight it every step of the way. If I need to tighten or lift something, I will do it. Although, I am not at that stage as of yet, I do not have a problem with it. As a matter of fact, I am going to start a slush fund and call it "vanity fare." I want to be ready when the time arrives.
As far as my gene pool, my mother did not start to gray until she was in her 60's. wrinkles came much later...she is in her late 70's. I have been fortunate not to gray yet, but I do not have a problem with taking care of that as well.
I am not interested in implants or lipo or the likes. I have plenty of what I need. I only want to keep it where it should be.

    Re: Looking Your Age

(Byron's Wife here) I guess the main issue for me would be whether I age gracefully... and my perception of age revolves around attitude as much as physical appearance. Sure, I want to remain attractive and be able to turn my husband's head twenty years from now... but I don't mind looking my age either, as long as "my age" never becomes one of those "boring old matrons" with the mom jeans & bad haircut that PaleMale was describing.

I've had a lot of older friends, and it's a really beautiful thing to see an elderly person who keeps such a vibrant attitude on life that despite any wrinkles/ gray hair etc... they're radiant and youthful- and a blast to be around. That's what I want to be like as I get older. Maybe it's easy to be philosophical now as I don't have any real wrinkles yet, and only a few stark silver hairs sneaking in... But, I like to imagine that regardless of what my genetics may dish out, I will still look good because I will continue to wear tastefully stylish clothes and hairstyles that fit ME- not "my age". One of my best friends totally rocked zebra prints and fire-engine-red clothing well into her 70s, and I admire her boldness. That's what aging well is about for me, having the confidence to be myself and shine from within! Anyway, that's my theory- and I'm sticking to it.

    Re: Looking Your Age

From doing professional massages and sports related therapy, I get to see a LOT of women (skin wise) and "hear" their stories.

For sure, how you age is based on your inherited genes. BUT -

    Smoking
    Alcohol
    Sun bathing
    Sun beds
    Public swimming pools
    Poor hydration
    Lack of or poor sex
    Stress

.. are all things that can seriously effect you when you get older.. sadly, when we are young, we tend to over indulge in many of the above and there is a HEAVY price to pay.

    When you consider -

Smoking (based on just 10-20 per day for periods of 12months at a time or longer) will age the avg 30yr old by as much as 10-15yrs in her appearance.

Alcohol (based on consuming 1.5x the recommended daily allowance) will add at least another 5-10yrs to your face and wrinkles

Sun bathing (well if skin cancer doesn't get you) will age you massively

Sun beds (probably just as bad as straight sun)

Public swimming pools (chemicals, need I say more)

Poor hydration - water is your friend, at least 1.75L - 2.25L per day will do magic for your skin and your health in general

Lack of or poor sex - sex is important.. releases some really important hormones into your bloodstream and reduces stress, all of which is good for your overal health, especially the point about stress.. cos stress will age you..

My receipe for looking good as you get older is simple - regular exercise and a hug per day works wonders.. knowing that you are loved is an amazing tonic and it's FREE..

    Re: Looking Your Age

    Great advice, EFMax!

My problem is hydration. I never drink enough! Sometimes I go throughout the day, look up at the clock and WOW it's 8pm and I haven't drank anything. That's really really bad. Sometimes I have to set alarms on my phone to help remind me to drink. Ugh...

I'm a non-smoker and a non-drinker. Yippee!!! My ex-husband's face is really beginning to age because of his smoking. SMDH... I don't think he sees it. I notice all of the little things about a person that people usually miss. For example, I can tell a smoker's face from a non-smoker's face based on age and the placement/location of certain fine lines on their face, neck and fingers. Uh huh...

Sex, Sex and more Sex! I don't get enough of it and I'm okay with that. I get tons of hugs from my babies though!

I can't have much to show about this. However, I am 22 years old but I look like I am 17 years old. Especially when I go to bars or clubs, people tend to think I have an fake ID when it is not. It does make me mad to a certain degree, but my family looks younger than age. For example, my mom is 42 and my grandmother is 78 as where my mom looks 23 and my grandmother looks like she's in her early 50s. The youth look runs through my family. However, it has good and back outcomes to our looks.

I do the gym everyday for a good 2 hours or so.
3 days a week upper body weights~10-12 routines and always 12-15 reps per set.
    I start all 5 days with a fast 45 mins on a T-mill.
2-3 days a week, I beat on the heavy bag for maybe 15 mins.
I like the heavy back because I can beat the shyt out of it & it doesn't hit back.

I've got a full head of longish blond hair.
I admit that I'm proud of my hair.
After all, most people in WI are fat with beards and shaved heads~~and those are the women

A big part of not looking your age is how you feel, how you carry yourself and act, etc.

A lot of people my age go to flea markets and are couch potatoes.
I like my potatoes in the pot, NOT on the couch.

I'm not interested in women my age because they just can't keep up with the things I can and like to do.
So I hear these things such as, "Why don't you date someone your age?"
Well, if it's ok for a woman to be a cougar, then it's ok for a guy to be a lecher.
