    No, I am NOT the Receptionist!

    I wouldn't be writing this if it only happened once. Nor would I if it had only happened twice. But this is an ongoing issue in my workplace.

    I work at a rather small company during the day. I am a project manager in charge of a team of over a dozen developers. All of my developers are White men. I am the only female in our group. I am the only Black in our group.

    Our team is located at the front part of the office. Not the very front but closer to the front than the business ladies and gent's in the office. The receptionist desk is located at the door. One must walk past the receptionist's desk, past all of my developers AND the QA team to get to my office. It's a nice distance.

    "There you are" said the FedEx guy as he started scribbling on his pad while standing outside of my cubicle.

    "Ummm... I'm not the receptionist" I told him.

    WTF! This has happened about 6 times with different men coming to my dayum cubicle assuming I am the mail chick or the receptionist. Yes, she is Black but she looks absolutely nothing like me! And the men doing this? They're not only White men. They're also Black men.

    Not bashing receptionists but ummm... I'm a manager - A project manager. I'm three slots below the CEO on the dayum organization chart and I do NOT appreciate people assuming that I am not at this level in the game. Hmph!

    I feel your pain. I'm always the only black woman in the office. I've been mistaken for the assistant a few times myself. My question is: Where the hell is the receptionist?! If they keep passing her to get to you, she's spending too much time away from her desk!

    then u must analyze what you are doing wrong, Perhaps your presentation needs work? just a thought, Or put a huge sign up saying directions to where the recep can be found, or something to that effect? Im sure you are not the first woman who has went through this problem.
